JULY MEMORY VERSE

The LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9)

God chose Joshua as Moses’ successor to lead the Israelites. Prior to Moses’ death, Joshua served as Moses’ assistant. When Moses died, it was time for Joshua to assume leadership. As he began to assume the role of leader, God told Joshua that it was time for the Israelites to finally enter the land God had promised to them when God freed them from slavery in Egypt. After forty years of wilderness wandering, the Israelites preparing to enter the Promised Land were not the same Israelites that had been slaves in Egypt. With the exception of Joshua and Caleb, the Israelites who had left Egypt had since passed away. It was their children and grandchildren who prepared to enter the Promised Land.

Leading the Israelites was a daunting responsibility. God assured Joshua with the words, “I will be with you in the same way I was with Moses. I won’t desert you or leave you” (Joshua 1:5). Then God reminded Joshua of the importance of knowing and following God’s instructions.

God did many things for the Israelites. God sent Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery. God parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could escape from the Egyptian army. God provided manna for them to eat, and led them using a pillar of cloud and lightning. God gave them laws to help them live in relationship with God and with each other. God knew the way these stories and God’s instructions would be remembered was…if people passed them on to their children. Stories need to be told to be kept alive.

For this very reason, we continue to read the Bible and share with each other the stories it contains. If we do not tell these stories, we as God’s people will forget our history. Each week as you share the Bible story with your children, you are helping to keep God’s story alive in all of our minds.

DEEP BLUE ADVENTURES APP
While I was looking for all the new material to share with you about our new unit, I stumbled across this app. I downloaded it for free, and it has all the videos to go along with the Bible story each week. There is a trivia game, a fun scripture game and another maze game that reinforced the verse of the month. It isn’t anything fancy, but I thought I would share if you were looking for new ways to engage your kids with our weekly Bible stories at home. GET IT HERE

Join our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook group for extra resources like lesson plans and music videos. I also post recordings of all our Godly Play lessons.

For the month of July, we will be taking a break from Zoom Sunday school. Pastor Lisa and Allison will be collaborating on new ideas for interacting with your children. Please join our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group for prerecorded and “Godly Play LIVE” Sunday School lessons. We will post favorite songs with actions each week as well as lesson plan demonstrations, and much more!

If your child did not receive a “Flat Jesus” in the mail this week, here is a digital download for you to print at home. We want the kids to remember that, even though we cannot meet together at church right now, that Jesus is always with them! Have your child color, cut out, and laminate his/her “Flat Jesus” then take him with you on your summer trips and outings. Snap a picture of “Flat Jesus” and post on our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group to see where CH Kids are taking Him this Summer.
