AUGUST MEMORY VERSE

“Shout triumphantly to the Lord, all the earth!” (Psalm 100:1)

After God led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, but before they reached the Promised Land of Canaan, they spent forty years wandering in the wilderness of the Sinai Peninsula. During this time, following God’s directions, the Israelites built a dwelling for God. This dwelling had all the equipment of a permanent temple, but it was designed to be mobile. The tent served as a place the Israelites could go and worship God. The Tabernacle (tent) also served as a visible reminder of God’s constant presence with them as they traveled.

The instructions for building the tent for God are presented in Exodus in elaborate detail. There are instructions for making the meeting tents, the altar, the chest for the stone tablets, and even the lampstands. Details such as the materials used, measurements, and designs to incorporate are included. Then instructions are given in similar detail for making the clothes the priests would wear, and even their undergarments are described!

Once completed, Moses had God’s tent, or Tabernacle, set up in the center of the Israelites’ camp. It was not the only place where God lived, but it was a place for the people to meet together, learn about God, and worship.

Before the pandemic, our church community also gathered to learn about God and to worship together. The place we meet serves as a visual reminder for us of God’s presence, just as the Tabernacle reminded the Israelites that God was with them. Although we cannot be together again yet, when you see our church I hope it reminds you of happy memories worshipping God. Praying we can be together again soon!

Do you have a specific place where you encounter God? Maybe you have several special places where you find God. Think about them. Why do you think you feel God’s presence in those places? Visit one of those places now (if you can) and spend a few minutes in silence, soaking up the love God pours on you.

Thank you to all the children, parents and grandparents who participated in VBS @ Home last week. We had a great time learning about the armor of God: Truth, Justice, Peace, Faith & Salvation.

DEEP BLUE ADVENTURES APP
While I was looking for all the new material to share with you about our new unit, I stumbled across this app. I downloaded it for free, and it has all the videos to go along with the Bible story each week. There is a trivia game, a fun scripture game and another maze game that reinforced the verse of the month. It isn’t anything fancy, but I thought I would share if you were looking for new ways to engage your kids with our weekly Bible stories at home. GET IT HERE

Please join our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group for prerecorded and “Godly Play LIVE” Sunday School lessons. We will post favorite songs with actions each week as well as lesson plan demonstrations, and much more!

If your child did not receive a “Flat Jesus” in the mail this week, here is a digital download for you to print at home. We want the kids to remember that, even though we cannot meet together at church right now, that Jesus is always with them! Have your child color, cut out, and laminate his/her “Flat Jesus” then take him with you on your summer trips and outings. Snap a picture of “Flat Jesus” and post on our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group to see where CH Kids are taking Him this Summer.

During the month of August, we will continue to post lesson plans and videos on our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group. On the last Sunday of the month, we will do a Zoom meeting to show off the memory verse, sing and dance together, and to check in before school starts. Our return date to the church has not been decided at this point.
