Are you honest with God?

Today’s spiritual practice is to courageously connect to the living God through prayer.

Prayer is a beautiful place to practice courage.
When we trust God with the truth of our lives, we practice the kind of connection we want with others as well.

Let’s walk through this practice together.

Get alone.

Start to take notice of your breath.
Pay attention to how it feels in your body to breathe with intention. Tune into your senses. Let your feelings fill you up as you breathe.

Take your feelings to God in prayer. You may start conversationally. Address God. Say hello. State your reason for coming. I want to be honest with you...

As you pray you may rehearse a prayer you know, you may talk openly with God, you might write out a prayer or even draw a picture.

As we engage God we can expect God’s presence, challenge and blessing. As you continue to breathe imagine your heart and head expanding along with your lungs.

Give thanks to God for this renewal.

May God bless us with a restless discomfort about easy answers, half-truths and superficial relationships, so that we may seek truth boldly and love deep within our hearts.
May God bless us with holy anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that we may tirelessly work for justice, freedom, and peace among all people.

May God bless us with the gift of tears to shed with those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, or the loss of all that they cherish, so that we may reach out our hand to comfort them and transform their pain into joy.
May God bless us with enough foolishness to believe that we really CAN make a difference in this world, so that we are able, with God’s grace, to do what others claim cannot be done.
And the blessing of God the Supreme Majesty and our Creator, Jesus Christ the Incarnate Word who is our brother and Saviour, and the Holy Spirit, our Advocate and Guide, be with us and remain with us, this day and forevermore.
Amen.
