Hello Chapel Hill Families!

I can’t believe it is already March! So excited for some spring time weather, and spending more time outside with my kids. We are beginning a new unit as we continue through the season of Lent. Check out our new faith word, and memory verse below. Our lessons this month include:

  • March 7th – “Jesus Washes Feet” (John 13:1-17)
  • March 14th – “The Last Supper” (Luke 22:14-20)
  • March 21st – “Praying in the Garden” (Luke 22:39-46)
  • March 28th – “Jesus Enters Jerusalem” (Matthew 21:1-11)

I am enjoying filming a new family each week for the Sunday School videos. If your child would like to be featured in one of these videos, please let me know!  I can be flexible with days and times so let me know what works best for your family. I am now in search of children to assist with these March lessons.

If you take any pictures or videos of your children worshipping or doing the crafts, please share them with our Facebook group, or e-mail them to me at aroth@chwichita.org. I always love seeing the kids participating in Sunday School activities!

BACK TO CHURCH

Did you hear? We are planning on returning to in-person church services on Sunday, April 18th. We had enough people respond to our initial survey to plan for both a 9:30 and 11:00 service.  There will not be any Nursery or Sunday School for children at this time, but that is the next phase as COVID data continues to decline, and I am so eager to have CH Kids back in the children’s wing! I will have extra activity bags for the kids to help keep them busy during the service, and I am working with Pastor Jeff on making some family friendly options. Stay tuned for more info!

KDIC & PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

KDIC and Preschool Enrollment opened to the public on Monday! Please share these links with your friends and family with little ones at home in need of a safe, loving place to care for them while they get a little break!

Don’t forget to check our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group regularly for the most up to date information. If you haven’t checked your child’s information on the birthday post from December 29th, please make sure you do so as soon as possible. I have marked it as an announcement so you can easily find it.  If you have moved in the last year, please contact the office so that we have your correct address on file so they can receive some birthday mail. The office number is (316) 684-1117.

Blessings to you and your children,

Allison

Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.

Since we are not able to meet in person, I have been mailing Sunday School Kits to families each month with printed lesson plans, activity sheets and craft supplies. If you would like to be added to our mailing list for April, please sign up by clicking the button below.  I will also continue to attach digital copies of the material to our weekly e- news for you to print at home if you prefer that option, or missed the deadline.

March Faith Word

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of March is, “Remember”.

March Memory Verse

Bible Story Preview

This week we are exploring the story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet. As Jesus and his disciples are having a meal, Jesus does something unexpected. He kneels down and begins to wash the feet of his friends. This act typically is something done by a servant, so the disciples are surprised. Peter says to Jesus, “No! You will never wash my feet!” This is a strong response. But Jesus, who soon will be led to his death, has a purpose behind his actions. He wants his friends to remember him by his example of serving others.

We, too, can serve like Jesus. This story reminds us of Jesus’ life and of who we are called to be as his disciples. Many churches use this story during Lent or Holy Week, and hold a foot-washing service. When we participate in this ritual, we remember Jesus and answer his call to follow his example.

Children might see this practice as something we don’t do today. Try comparing this practice with other acts of service, such as helping a neighbor take out the trash, caring for someone who is sick, or helping a friend clean up a spill. Through this story, we can help children know and see that they are serving like Jesus when they do
unexpected acts of love.

Spiritual Practice for Adults

Jesus poured water on the disciples’ feet to teach them they must serve as servants to spread God’s love. Go to a sink and close your eyes as you wash your hands. Think of one way you can serve others. Through your one action of service, you become a servant, like Jesus, and continue the work that he started. Pray for the children in your class, that they will feel God’s love and want to serve as Jesus did.
