Hello Chapel Hill Families!

This past week I have been reaching out to all our former Sunday school volunteers to gage how many were willing to teach Sunday school when we are cleared to have kids in the children’s wing again. I am so grateful so many enthusiastically responded, “YES!”. Do you have a desire to serve Chapel Hill as a Sunday School teacher or assistant? Shoot me an e-mail so we can talk more about joining our CH Kids team! I do not know when Sunday school will resume, but I just want to be as prepared as possible so when the COVID task force gives us the OK, we can start right away!

The upcoming lessons include:

  • March 28th – “Jesus Enters Jerusalem” (Matthew 21:1-11)
  • April 4 – “Resurrection” (Matthew 28:1-10)
  • April 11 – “The Great Commission” (Matthew 28:16-20)

If your child would like to be featured in one of these videos, please let me know!  I can be flexible with days and times so let me know what works best for your family.

I always love seeing the kids participating in Sunday School activities! If you take any pictures or videos of your children worshipping or doing the crafts, please share them with our Facebook group, or e-mail them to me at aroth@chwichita.org.

BACK TO CHURCH

Did you hear? We are planning on returning to in-person church services on Sunday, April 18th. We had enough people respond to our initial survey to plan for both a 9:30 and 11:00 service.  There will NOT be any Nursery or Sunday School for children at this time, but that is the next phase as COVID data continues to decline, and I am so eager to have CH Kids back in the children’s wing! I will have extra activity bags for the kids to help keep them busy during the service, and I am working with Pastor Jeff on making some family friendly options. Stay tuned for more info!

KDIC & PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

KDIC and Preschool Enrollment opened to the public last week! Please share these links with your friends and family with little ones at home in need of a safe, loving place to care for them while they get a little break!

Don’t forget to check our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group regularly for the most up to date information. If you haven’t checked your child’s information on the birthday post from December 29th, please make sure you do so as soon as possible. I have marked it as an announcement so you can easily find it.  If you have moved in the last year, please contact the office so that we have your correct address on file so they can receive some birthday mail. The office number is (316) 684-1117.

Blessings to you and your children,

Allison

Vacation Bible School 2021 “Discovery on Adventure Island”

Join us for “Discovery on Adventure Island” VBS at Chapel Hill! We are so excited to gather together for this event this year. Child spaces will be limited to 200 and we will make some other adjustments due to the pandemic, but it is sure to be another great year of FUN learning and worshipping together! We have purchased materials that can be easily used in an online format if numbers show that it is not wise to meet in person. Children of volunteers will be the first to register. If you would like to join our team, please click on the image below to sign-up!

Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.

Since we are not able to meet in person, I have been mailing Sunday School Kits to families each month with printed lesson plans, activity sheets and craft supplies. If you would like to be added to our mailing list for April, please sign up by clicking the button below.  I will also continue to attach digital copies of the material to our weekly e- news for you to print at home if you prefer that option, or missed the deadline.

March Faith Word

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of March is, “Remember”.

March Memory Verse

Bible Story Preview

Today is Palm Sunday, when Jesus entered Jerusalem. Jesus asked the disciples to go into a village and get a donkey for him to ride into Jerusalem. This was done “to fulfill what the prophet said” (verse 4) about the Messiah’s arrival. The prophecy says, “Look, your king is coming to you, humble and riding on a donkey” (verse 5b). The disciples did as Jesus asked. They covered the donkey with their clothes, and Jesus sat on them.

As Jesus approached Jerusalem, crowds gathered on the road to greet him as people greeted kings in those days, by spreading their clothes on the road for him to walk on along with palm branches cut from nearby trees. The waving of palms was a traditional greeting for royalty in that time and area as well. As Jesus passed, the crowds shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (verse 9). Hosanna was originally a prayer, but over time became a festive shout.

Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem is the traditional start of Holy Week. You’ll want your children to understand that these events fulfill the prophesies about the coming of the Messiah. We also focus on the ritual of joyfully welcoming others as a way of remembering Jesus.

Spiritual Practice for Adults

This week practice joyfully welcoming others on a regular basis. Find special ways to welcome your family home at the end of the day. Make a point of offering a warm greeting to neighbors and coworkers. It doesn’t have to be a dramatic welcome. You simply may focus on smiling and giving your full attention to those who enter your presence. At the end of the week, ask yourself these questions: Did changing the way you welcomed others change your mood? If so, how? Did it change how others interacted with you? If so, in what ways? How can you make joyful greetings an effortless daily ritual?
