Hello Chapel Hill Families!

VBS Child Registration Links are being sent to Leaders who have signed up to help July 19-23 this week. We will not open child registration until we have enough leaders this year. Maximum kids will be 200 this year (226 LESS than 2019). Ensure your child gets to participate by volunteering! Do you have a teenager 16+ or other family member that would be able to volunteer in your place? That works too! Only available part of the week? We’ll accept any time you are willing to give. Just make a note of your availability in the comments. Click HERE to join our team!

Hallelujah, KIDS ARE COMING BACK TO SUNDAY SCHOOL STARTING MAY 2nd! At this time, we will only have Sunday School during the 9:30 service. NURSERY WILL BE AVAILABLE AT BOTH 9:30 & 11:00 SERVICES. If you couldn’t tell, I’m just a little excited to see everyone together again 🙂  If you plan on attending church in May, please make sure to make your reservation here.

The restrictions for our return to CH Kids Nursery & Sunday school include:

SUNDAY SCHOOL LEADERS NEEDED

I was so amazed at how many of our leaders are excited to come back and serve CH Kids. If you would like to assist in helping out during the Sunday school hour, please let me know! Many leaders sign up for one Sunday each month, while others enjoy serving every week or anything in between. We also appreciate people who are willing to step in as a substitute when needed. We can work with your schedule month to month, and appreciate any time you can give.

  • No experience is necessary.
  • Lessons and materials are planned and prepared for you ahead of time. Just show up before the kids to review and you are good to go!
  • Celebrate Wonder also includes scripted lessons if you are not confident in leading a lesson on your own.
  • All leaders 16 years old and up are required to go through Safe Gatherings Training and Certification before working with kids.
  • There are ALWAYS two teachers per class so you are NEVER alone with kids.
  • …and it is so much FUN!

MAY SUNDAY SCHOOL KITS

Since we will be back together in-person for Sunday school, I am NOT planning on continuing the monthly Sunday School kits for those who have signed up for them. I WILL continue to attach the materials to this e-mail each week if you are unable to attend in person that Sunday. If you would like to continue receiving monthly kits mailed to you, please contact Abigail Deiter at adeiter@chwichita.org and we can continue to get them to you. We realize not all people are comfortable returning to worship in person, and would like to be as accommodating as possible.

Upcoming lessons include:

  • April 18 – “Peter and John” (Acts 3:1-10)
  • April 25 – “Believers Share” (Acts 4:32-37)

If your child would like to be featured in one of these videos, please let me know!  I can be flexible with days and times so let me know what works best for your family.

I always love seeing the kids participating in Sunday School activities! If you take any pictures or videos of your children worshipping or doing the crafts, please share them with our Facebook group, or e-mail them to me at aroth@chwichita.org.

Vacation Bible School 2021 “Discovery on Adventure Island”

Join us for “Discovery on Adventure Island” VBS at Chapel Hill! We are so excited to gather together for this event this year. Child spaces will be limited to 200 and we will make some other adjustments due to the pandemic, but it is sure to be another great year of FUN learning and worshipping together! We have purchased materials that can be easily used in an online format if numbers show that it is not wise to meet in person. Children of volunteers will be the first to register. If you would like to join our team, please click on the image below to sign-up!

Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.

April Faith Word

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of April is, “Share”.

Bible Story Preview

Peter and John were devout Jews who went to the temple daily to pray. This story opens with Peter and John going into the temple for evening prayer. While entering the gate, they saw a man who could not walk since birth. Each day, people carried the man to the gate so he could beg. The man begged at the gate because no one else would help him or include him in their community.

When the man begs from Peter and John, Peter tells the man they have no money for him and, instead, offer him something better. Peter commands the man to rise up in the name of Jesus, and then pulls him up by the hand. The man is healed by the power of Jesus and begins to walk, leap, and praise God. All who saw this miracle were amazed, and soon a crowd gathered. Peter then told Jesus’ story to all the people. He wanted to make sure that people understood the power to heal was not his, but God’s. All the glory belonged to God. Later, the man joins Peter and John in the temple as a member of the faith community.

Children will encounter people who are asking for help. They might not always know what to do. We can’t always heal everyone, but we can help with a small task or help one person at a time. This story also includes amazement and surprise, which are common responses to these kinds of healings. Like many of the stories in this unit, there is great mystery in what happened, allowing children to wonder about Jesus and his teachings, healings, and ministry.

Spiritual Practice for Adults

This story can evoke confusion or questions from children about how this man was healed. It might even bring up questions about why this man was healed and others are not. This week practice open-ended questions with children, because you don’t always know what your kids might say. It is important to let children process even the hard stuff.

Here are some questions to try:
• When a child doesn’t make the best choice: “What could you have done instead?”
• When a child has an idea: “How are you planning to do that?”
• When a child is upset: “What happened?”
• When a child can’t let something go: “Why is it so important to you?”
