2021 VISION

Children of God

Scripture

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

-1 John 4:7 (nrsv)

Reflection

Do a little bit of good where you are.  It is those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.

-Desmond Tutu

 Consider

John Wesley, founder of the 18th century Methodism movement, taught Three Simple Rules.

The second “rule” is: Do good. (For the first rule see last week’s post.)

This is one of John Wesley’s most famous quotes: “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.”

Doing good can be simple or complex.  You can smile at a stranger or organize a birthday card shower for a friend.  Doing good can take minutes or hours.  You can take out the trash without being asked or offer to help deep clean/reorganize a room in your house.  Doing good can be thoughtful or action-oriented, spontaneous or planned, by yourself or with a group.

Doing good is bringing grace to action and love to life.

Now, make your “to do good” list.

Pray

Loving God, help me to rest in you.  Fill me with energy to do good.  Amen.
