Hello Chapel Hill Families!

I don’t know about you, but I have a love/hate relationship with Back to School season. On the one hand, I love the excitement of a new school year and all the back to school shopping. Our attendance on Sunday starts to climb back up as families return from vacations and weekends at the lake, and I love seeing all the kids! On the other hand, there never seems to be enough time to do all that I want to do during this season. Praying for your children, their teachers, and you (parents) this week as we embark on a new year!

CALLING ALL 3RD GRADERS

It is time to register for 3rd Grade Bible Class. Please complete this form so I can have an accurate count to order Bibles. Deadline to register is NEXT WEEK August 18th!

SUNDAY SCHOOL

In the month of August, our new Faith Word is COURAGE. This Sunday we will learn about the story of “Esther”(Book of Esther). Join us!

We will not have sign-ups for 9:30 Sunday School. Come when you can! Nursery will be available at BOTH 9:30 and 11:00 services. No Sunday School at 11:00. We have clipboards outside the sanctuary available for kids attending worship.

Kids will now attend their Sunday School classes according to their grade level for next year. Here are the room assignments for this weekend. Next weekend we will ungroup grades as our attendance rises:

  • Birth-Prekindergarten: Nursery in Fellowship Hall
  • Kindergarten & 1st Grade: LL-31 in Children’s Wing
  • 2nd & 3rd Grade: LL29 in Children’s Wing
  • 4th & 5th Grade: LL-32 in Children’s Wing
  • 6th-8th Grade: LL-4
  • 9th-12th Grade: LL-6

REMINDER: If you have a 3rd, 4th or 5th grader that has a Deep Blue Bible, please help them remember to bring it with them to Sunday school each week! We don’t have many extras of that particular version at the church and they will be looking up and reading scripture every time they come to church from now on.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR OUR CHRISTMAS EVE PERFORMANCE!

We are looking for children to fill the following roles:

  • Sheep (Preschool-Kindergarten Aged)
  • Angels (1st-3rd Grade)
  • Shepherds (4th & 5th Grade)

Please contact me if your children are interested in participating. I am so excited for this new Chapel Hill tradition!

KDIC & PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Most classes are full, but we are accepting children for our wait list in case parents do not complete their enrollment. You can contact Debby Wilson for KDIC information at dwilson@chwichita.org and Mandi Johnston for preschool information at mjohnston@chwichita.org

Please share these links with your friends and family with little ones at home in need of a safe, loving place to care for them while they get a little break!

Don’t forget to check our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group regularly for the most up to date information. If you haven’t checked your child’s information on the birthday post from December 29th, please make sure you do so as soon as possible. I have marked it as an announcement so you can easily find it. If you have moved in the last year, please contact the office so that we have your correct address on file so they can receive some birthday mail. The office number is (316) 684-1117.

Blessings to you and your children,

Allison

Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.

August Faith Word

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of August is, “Courage”.

August Memory Verse

Bible Story Preview

This week’s Bible story is about Esther, who often is called “the courageous queen.” This dramatic and surprising story demonstrates Esther standing up with courage for her people and for God. Esther stays committed to her faith and to who she is.

The Common English Bible notes that being selfless is brave. Esther follows God in a difficult time and a hard situation. She risks her own life by telling the truth and standing up for other people. The risk and selfless bravery pay off, as she saves many lives. Some scholars say that Esther knew and seized the perfect moment and opportunity to help save her people.

Children can learn why it is important to stand up for others in times of need. Esther is a great example of doing the right thing, even when it is hard. Sometimes this is scary or difficult. But Ester reminds us to be brave and courageous so that we can do the right thing and be examples of God’s courageous love.

Spiritual Practice for Adults

Find a stop watch, or use your phone as a timer. Set the time for one minute. As the seconds pass, repeat over and over, “For a moment like this.” When the timer goes off, say this prayer: “Dear God, give me the courage to seek you in each moment. Amen.”
