Hello Chapel Hill Families!
This Sunday is TRUNK OR TREAT! I am looking forward to seeing you all in the church parking lot from 4:00-6:00PM. If you are interested in decorating a trunk, please click the button below or send me a message. We are still in need of a few more! We are also accepting candy donations through this week. Candy can be dropped off during office hours Monday-Friday. We have green bins at each entrance labeled “Candy Donations”.
In Sunday School this week we will continue the story of Moses’ life focusing on the monthly Faith Word, “AWE”. Our Bible story this week is “Crossing the Sea” (Exodus 13:17-14:31). We will see God show his power once again this week as the Israelites flee Egypt. Next week we will watch “Prince of Egypt” during Sunday School at 9:30 to review this month’s stories. All kids will gather in LL-30-32 on this day.
KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES: Please double check which class you are checking your kindergartener in on Sundays. For some reason, the system keeps defaulting them to Pre-K and they are not showing up on our kindergarten room rosters Sunday morning. We have moved them to kindergarten and deleted them from Pre-K, but it continues to happen. If you need help changing the class, Laura, Ryan , or I can help you with that. Thanks for your assistance with this issue!
Friday, October 1st was Neema’s birthday! We sponsor Neema and her cousin, Kikwete, who live in the Angel House Orphanage in Tanzania, Africa. We have pledged to give $90/month in order to provide food, clothing and schooling to these children at Angel House. Each Sunday, kids have the opportunity to bring money to put into our offering for Neema and Kikwete. Would you help us meet our goal by sending your child with $1.00 each week? Our kids did such a good job remembering to bring their offering this past week! Our former Director of Children’s Ministries, Raegan Brane, has visited Angel House in the past. You can find out more information about the Grassroots Organization and Angel House by clicking HERE.

Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.
October Faith Word

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of October is, “Awe”.

Pharaoh finally agreed to let the Israelites go. They quickly gathered what they could and left. Moses was now in charge of getting thousands of people out of Egypt. Whatever doubts Moses may have had, he was reminded daily that God was with him. God led the people with a column of clouds by day and a column of lightning by night. I can only imagine the awe the Israelites must have felt following God in the clouds and the lightning!
It didn’t take long for the Pharaoh to change his mind again. While the people were camped by the Reed Sea, Pharaoh’s army caught up to them. The people were afraid and blamed Moses for leading them to the desert to die. They needed a lot of convincing that the God of Moses was with them.
Moses trusted God, and his faith did not waver. When God told him to point his rod towards the sea, Moses did not hesitate. The Reed Sea parted, the Israelites went through, and when Moses pointed his rod again, the sea came together. The Egyptians were stopped on the other side of the Reed Sea. The Israelites were in awe when they saw the mighty power of God.
The Bible story this week is just the beginning of a long journey for the Israelites. They would continue to doubt God’s presence, and God would continue to perform awe-inspiring acts.

Spiritual Practice for Adults
Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Imagine you are walking through the sea with the Israelites. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you feel? What action has God done in your life that was so awe-inspiring, you knew immediately it was God? Thank God for always being present with you.
