Scripture for this week: Psalm 138
Wise words from W.H. Auden:
The distresses of choice are our chance to be blessed.
Groundhog Day, first celebrated in 1887, is today. More winter, or spring? More importantly, what season do you nurture in your soul? Cold, reflective, snowy winter moments? Vibrant, creative spring imaginations? Long and productive summer days? Or the energetic connectivity of fall? In all seasons we are invited by God, who loves us with steadfast fervor, to give thanks “with our whole hearts” (Psalm 138: 1). Whole-heartedness is about self-care and self-development that help to sustain our vitality and authenticity. Each one of us is called to “be who you are, not who they want you to be.” (reflections on Murray Bowen Family Systems Theory). Knowing and loving oneself, and living in God’s love (belonging and worth) allows one to live with curiosity and joy in the middle of a snowstorm, a rain shower, a heat wave, or a windstorm. More winter, or spring? No matter what tomorrow brings, embrace it with your whole heart and give thanks to God for God’s steadfast love and faithfulness.
