St. Arbucks Chapel- October 5th, 2022

One of the blocks to God’s love I didn’t have time for in the sermon this past Sunday was what Dr J names in his book as, “Graceless Religion creates Graceless Christians.” I was raised with a lot of Christians who expressed rather frequently in word and deed what Dr JBS writes in his book:

  •  “There is a general sense that God is disappointed with us at best and downright angry at us at worst!” p. 71 “The Good and Beautiful You”

Many years ago, I heard Max Lucado preach a sermon on how graceless religion is certainly not Christian and creates pseudo-Christians, who are graceless and often mean in the name of God. Max, in this sermon, attributed pseudo-Christianity to be rooted in legalism.

“I’m innocent. I don’t need or desire the bloody mercy of Jesus. That is for those poor, miserable, wretched, sinners who need it. God and I are good because God knows…I am righteous because I always do the right thing and the world would be a better place if everyone were more like me!” Max Lucado – a Sermon on being Grace-full
