St. Arbucks Chapel- April 12, 2023

Before Covid, the former Brookside United Methodist Church in Planeview was given by the Great Plains Conference of the UMC to Chapel Hill. We envisioned creating a tutoring center, creating a new congregation, and protecting our partnership with Hunter Health, whose clinic is on our property. Once we started to come out of the Covid crisis, the schools we partner with in Planview, Colvin Elementary, and Jardine Middle School, now require all tutoring to take place on campus. And the Hispanic congregation led by Padre Ivan Gonzales has moved to St. Paul Lutheran on Waco Street in North Wichita. All said, our Board decided to sell the building to Hunter Health for $2,000 (to cover miscellaneous expenses).   Hunter Health can use the space and it will protect the clinic, which is essential in the most impoverished neighborhood in our City.

This is a letter I received from Amy Feimer, the CEO of Hunter Health Clinic. Amy and her husband, Chris and Amy’s parents Bob and Susan Mann, are all Chapel Hillers. We are extremely grateful for this enduring partnership with Hunter Health.

To the members of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church,

On behalf of Hunter Health’s board of directors, employees, and patients, I want to thank you for your continued support of our organization. Since 1998, the Chapel Hill United Methodist congregation has partnered with Hunter Health to provide comprehensive healthcare in the Plainview community.

Starting with the clinic in the Brookside United Methodist Church 25 years ago, and then building the stand-alone clinic in 2010, your partnership and support have helped us reach those in our community with some of the greatest needs.

With the remodel of our Brookside Clinic last year, and the opportunity to purchase the Brookside United Methodist Church, we are continuing to expand our services in the Plainview neighborhood and look for ways to steward the buildings and land in a way that honors its history as both a prehistoric Native American site, the Painted Turtle, and a United Methodist faith community.

Again, we want to thank you for your continued investment and partnership in the Hunter Health mission. As we work with the community to determine the best use of the Brookside United Methodist Church, we want to invite you to see how your investment in our organization and the community is impacting the neighborhood.

Thank you,

Amy Feimer
