WHY CHAPEL HILL

It all started because the majority of the Sunday brunch buffets are (and in some cases were) on the east side of Wichita – Newport Grill, Olive Tree, Scotch and Sirloin, Terradyne, Granite City, Piccadilly, Piztro’s, The Marriott, and Ya Ya’s.  Chapel Hill was among the conveniently located United Methodist Churches we tried, but in the end “got the most votes.”

There was one Sunday that “clinched the deal.”  The greeter at the door said, “You are from Winfield and I should remember your name.”  I introduced myself and those with me.  We then entered the reception area.  You immediately walked over and said, “Ralph, introduce me to these students from Southwestern.”  I did so and some welcoming conversation ensued.  We then went into the sanctuary and sat down.  A couple walked into the row behind us and said, ‘We had better sit here and make sure these boys from Southwestern behave themselves.”  We all had a good laugh.  Then someone else walked over and said, “Why did you leave the one with the good voice at home?”  I noted that Josh Davison had moved to Oklahoma City.  What really impressed everyone was that it had been six months since we had attended Chapel Hill!!

And, yes, I know that since you are a pastor anything I say or do might be used in a sermon.  You are welcome to do so.
