Starting tonight and every night, at 7:01 p.m., we are going to ring the Ellen Willis Memorial Bells for 5 minutes as a call to prayer for our front line workers in Wichita! Historically, as I shared with a reporter from Channel 3, the bell is a call to prayer! Bell ringing globally is an invitation to take notice of something important! The five minute ringing of the bells will be followed with “Amazing Grace,” using our beautiful bells. The Channel 3 story is to air today during one of their news times. Noon, 5, 6 or 10.
You may want to step out on your own porch and ring a bell or you may want to sit in your car and listen to the bells at Chapel Hill, practicing appropriate physical distancing.
As I shared in a press release to the media, “This is one simple way all of us can show our support for the important role front workers play in our community – whether they be health care providers caring tor those who are ill, those who work in the retail sector stocking our shelves with food or preparing it in our restaurants, or other essential workers. Front line workers are critical to us during this time of crisis and we want to show them how much we appreciate them each and every day.” We hope each congregation with bells will join us for a community wide effort of showing appreciation and offering prayer.
