Hello Chapel Hill Families!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you all are enjoying spring break, or finishing up the week strong in preparation for a break next week. Here is a little video I found about St. Patrick’s day if you would like to share it with your kiddos at home.

The upcoming lessons include:

• March 21st – “Praying in the Garden” (Luke 22:39-46)
• March 28th – “Jesus Enters Jerusalem” (Matthew 21:1-11)
• April 4 – “Resurrection” (Matthew 28:1-10)
• April 11 – “The Great Commission” (Matthew 28:16-20)

If your child would like to be featured in one of these videos, please let me know!  I can be flexible with days and times so let me know what works best for your family. I am now in search of children to assist with these March lessons.

I always love seeing the kids participating in Sunday School activities! If you take any pictures or videos of your children worshipping or doing the crafts, please share them with our Facebook group, or e-mail them to me at aroth@chwichita.org.

BACK TO CHURCH

Did you hear? We are planning on returning to in-person church services on Sunday, April 18th. We had enough people respond to our initial survey to plan for both a 9:30 and 11:00 service.  There will NOT be any Nursery or Sunday School for children at this time, but that is the next phase as COVID data continues to decline, and I am so eager to have CH Kids back in the children’s wing! I will have extra activity bags for the kids to help keep them busy during the service, and I am working with Pastor Jeff on making some family friendly options. Stay tuned for more info!

Join us for “Discovery on Adventure Island” VBS at Chapel Hill! We are so excited to gather together for this event this year. Child spaces will be limited to 200 and we will make some other adjustments due to the pandemic, but it is sure to be another great year of FUN learning and worshipping together! We have purchased materials that can be easily used in an online format if numbers show that it is not wise to meet in person. Children of volunteers will be the first to register. Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.

Since we are not able to meet in person, I have been mailing Sunday School Kits to families each month with printed lesson plans, activity sheets and craft supplies. If you would like to be added to our mailing list for April, please sign up by clicking the button below.  I will also continue to attach digital copies of the material to our weekly e- news for you to print at home if you prefer that option, or missed the deadline.

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of March is, “Remember”.

In the Bible story, Jesus is beginning his journey toward his death. As Jesus comes to terms with the coming days, he is experiencing many emotions. While his disciples sleep—despite Jesus’ instructions to pray—Jesus goes to pray. He is searching for comfort and guidance in the midst of his overwhelming feelings.

Sometimes we do not know how to express or understand our emotions. Yet, our emotions are trying to teach and tell. When we experience emotions, there are things we can do to help. Jesus teaches us that we can talk to God.

The video this week explores the loss of a grandparent. It is important to honor children’s experiences and to allow them to explore difficult topics. In doing so, you can guide children to go to God with what is hard, just like Jesus did. It might not change the outcome or take away something painful that already has happened; however, it can bring comfort to know that God goes with us and is present in the midst of our big emotions. These big emotions are felt even by the littlest children, and it is our job to help them know that God is there to comfort and guide them.

Feelings are complicated. In hard situations, we all react in different ways. Emotions can be teachers. They teach us what we want and need. When you are feeling an emotion this week, place your hands on your chest or heart. Say what emotion you are feeling. Then repeat the following phrase, “When I feel (emotion), I can share with God; and when I am feeling (emotion), I know God will be with me. Amen.”
