Hello Chapel Hill Families!

Thank you to all the new volunteers this month! It takes 10-12 volunteers each Sunday to make Sunday School possible for our CH Kids. We had several “First Timers” this past Sunday and it was so good to have new faces with us in the Children’s Wing! If you are interested in helping out once or twice a month, let me know!

SUNDAY SCHOOL

In the month of August, our Faith Word is COURAGE. This Sunday we will learn about the story of “Lydia”(Acts 16:11-15). Join us!

We will not have sign-ups for 9:30 Sunday School. Come when you can! Nursery will be available at BOTH 9:30 and 11:00 services. No Sunday School at 11:00. We have clipboards outside the sanctuary available for kids attending worship.

Kids will now attend their Sunday School classes according to their grade level for next year. Here are the NEW room assignments that began last weekend.

• Birth-Prekindergarten: Nursery in Fellowship Hall
• Kindergarten: LL-31 in Children’s Wing
• 1st Grade: LL29 in Children’s Wing
• 2nd Grade: LL-27 in Children’s Wing
• 3rd Grade: LL-25 in Children’s Wing
• 4th & 5th Grade: LL-32 in Children’s Wing
• 6th-8th Grade: LL-4
• 9th-12th Grade: LL-6

CALLING ALL 3RD GRADERS

It is time to register for 3rd Grade Bible Class. I have already ordered Bibles for the 17 kids who have signed up. If your child is in 3rd grade and would like to receive a Bible and participate in the class, Please complete this form . I ordered a few extras and would love for them to join us!

REMINDER: If you have a 3rd, 4th or 5th grader that has a Deep Blue Bible, please help them remember to bring it with them to Sunday school each week! We don’t have many extras of that particular version at the church and they will be looking up and reading scripture every time they come to church from now on.

KDIC & PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

If you haven’t checked your child’s information on the birthday post from December 29th, please make sure you do so as soon as possible. I have marked it as an announcement so you can easily find it. Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of August is, “Courage”.

In this week’s Bible story, we meet Lydia. She is a wealthy and independent woman who sells purple cloth. Lydia has only one speaking line in the story, but she plays an important role and does amazing things. While she is praying by the riverbank one day, Paul shows up. Lydia becomes Paul’s friend. Lydia is not a follower of Jesus before she meets Paul.

Lydia demonstrates courage by becoming a person of faith. Her heart opens to hearing the trusted words of Paul, so she listens to what he has to say. Lydia even opens her home and invites Paul to stay at her house and to spread the message of Jesus to her family. Lydia is hospitable and caring to her new friend. She starts a small church in her home. She likely uses her status to offer leadership and gifts to the early church. Lydia is courageous to follow Jesus; and because of her courage, the church grows and many people become followers of Jesus.

The story of Lydia often focuses on her purple cloth, which is a great symbol to help remember the story. However, there is much more to Lydia. She was a courageous leader who used her faithful discipleship to help others come to know the message of Jesus. Lydia’s natural gift of leadership brings people together in faith and demonstrates how courage can help us spread Jesus’ message of love.

Have you ever felt like you are known for just one thing? Maybe you are a good cook, have an excellent green thumb, or are a great public speaker. These gifts are important, but you are so much more. When we think of Lydia, we often think of her making purple cloth. But Lydia had many gifts.

This week, find a piece of purple paper. Draw a circle in the middle of the paper. In the circle, write what you think is your best gift. Then draw lines out from the circle. At the top of each line, write a way you can use that gift to spread God’s love. Hang up the paper as a reminder of all the gifts you have to offer.
