Hello Chapel Hill Families!

Last Sunday 10 of our 17 third graders received their Bibles during the 9:30AM service. We are so excited to start teaching them what the Bible is, how to use it, and how to teach others from it. My nerves got the best of me in front of the congregation on Sunday, but I just hope you all know how blessed we are to have Pastor Lisa teaching this class. I am so grateful for her leadership in this role each year in addition to teaching Godly play for our K-5th graders each week. Last year, she taught the same lesson to three different groups each on a different Sunday of the month in order to comply with CDC guidelines about group sizes AND to get our former 3rd graders their Bible class experience in the middle of the pandemic. She does all of this for our kids for FREE and I am just so very grateful. If you or your kids are able to stop and say thanks to her I would really appreciate it. Lets let her know how much she is loved!

SUNDAY SCHOOL

In the month of September, our Faith Word is RECONCILIATION. This Sunday we will review learn about “Joseph Saves the Day” (Genesis 41:1-57). Join us!

We will not have sign-ups for 9:30 Sunday School. Come when you can! Nursery will be available at BOTH 9:30 and 11:00 services. No Sunday School at 11:00. We have clipboards outside the sanctuary available for kids attending worship.

Kids will now attend their Sunday School classes according to their grade level for next year. Here are the NEW room assignments:

  • Birth-Prekindergarten: Nursery in Fellowship Hall
  • Kindergarten: LL-31 in Children’s Wing
  • 1st Grade: LL29 in Children’s Wing
  • 2nd Grade: LL-27 in Children’s Wing
  • 3rd Grade: LL-25 in Children’s Wing
  • 4th & 5th Grade: LL-32 in Children’s Wing

REMINDER:

If you have a 3rd, 4th or 5th grader that has a Deep Blue Bible, please help them remember to bring it with them to Sunday school each week! We don’t have many extras of that particular version at the church and they will be looking up and reading scripture every time they come to church from now on.

LOVE & LOGIC CLASS COMING SOON!

Pastor Jeff will once again offer a class on Love & Logic with an emphasis on how to raise kids who love and follow Jesus. This class will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:00PM. We will begin on October 6th and continue through November 10th for a total of 6 sessions. Please register early since this class will have a maximum number of participants.

TRUNK OR TREAT 2021

We are excited to host Trunk or Treat again this year! If you would like to decorate a trunk, please e-mail me! As always, we appreciate any and all candy donations for this event. Thank you!

Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.

September Faith Word

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of September is, “Reconciliation”.

September Memory Verse

Bible Story Preview

When we left Joseph last week, he was still in prison. Joseph had correctly interpreted a dream for the pharaoh’s cupbearer two years earlier. Joseph asked the cupbearer to remember him and tell the pharaoh about him when the cupbearer returned to work, but the cupbearer forgot.

The pharaoh began to have dreams he did not understand. He knew the dreams were important, but none of his advisors or religious leaders could tell him what the dreams meant. The cupbearer remembered Joseph and told the pharaoh how Joseph had correctly interpreted his dreams when he was in prison.

The pharaoh summoned Joseph from prison. Before Joseph heard the dream, he told the pharaoh that God sent the dreams, and it was God who would provide the interpretation, not Joseph. Pharaoh’s dreams included seven fat cows followed by seven skinny cows, and seven healthy stalks of grain followed by seven weak stalks of grain. Joseph informed Pharaoh his dreams meant God was going to send seven years of abundance followed by seven years of severe famine. He offered advice to the pharaoh and recommended a wise person be appointed to take charge of the grain harvest.

Pharaoh took his advice and appointed Joseph to be second-in-command to insure the people were taken care of in the years of famine. Joseph did not know events would soon take shape that would give him and his brothers a chance to reconcile.

Spiritual Practice for Adults

Have you had hurts you have been unable to get rid of? Grab a bottle of bubbles and think of a hurt you have and the person who gave it to you. As the bubbles float away, imagine your hurts floating away. Pray that God will help you forgive.
