Hello Chapel Hill Families!
This Sunday we are a little low on volunteers so we will be combining classes. October is a busy month for families! Pastor Lisa will also be gone this week so our 3rd graders will have normal Sunday School instead of 3rd grade Bible class. Room assignments are below:
- Birth-Prekindergarten: Nursery in Fellowship Hall
- Kindergarten & 1st Grade: LL29 in Children’s Wing
- 2nd Grade & 3rd Grade: LL-27 in Children’s Wing
- 4th & 5th Grade: LL-32 in Children’s Wing
Thank you to everyone who made our Fire Drill a success on Sunday. October is Fire Safety month so I took some time at the end of our lesson to talk with the kids about what to do in case of a fire. We clarified that you only STOP, DROP & ROLL if you are actually ON fire, and that when you see fire you need to get out FAST. We also talked about how our meeting place at church is the community garden. I asked the kids if they had a designated meeting place at home, and some were unsure. Take some time this week to talk with your kids about what to do and where to go in case of a house fire.
Friday, October 1st was Neema’s birthday! We sponsor Neema and her cousin, Kikwete, who live in the Angel House Orphanage in Tanzania, Africa. We have pledged to give $90/month in order to provide food, clothing and schooling to these children at Angel House. Each Sunday, kids have the opportunity to bring money to put into our offering for Neema and Kikwete. Would you help us meet our goal by sending your child with $1.00 each week? Our kids did such a good job remembering to bring their offering this past week! Our former Director of Children’s Ministries, Raegan Brane, has visited Angel House in the past. You can find out more information about the Grassroots Organization and Angel House by clicking HERE.

Celebrate Wonder is a Sunday school curriculum that engages children’s natural sense of curiosity to help them understand God’s love. It creates a safe environment for kids to ask big questions — helping them explore the Bible in ways that feed their imagination and encourages creativity. Through carefully-selected Bible stories, songs, videos, and hands-on activities, Celebrate Wonder gives children the tools to explore their faith while incorporating it into their daily lives.
October Faith Word

Each month, our weekly stories will align with a Faith Word. The Faith Word for the month of October is, “Awe”.

Bible Story Preview
Moses is now a grown man. He has led a privileged life as the grandson of the pharaoh, but Moses knows he is an Israelite. The mistreatment of his people, the Israelites, upsets Moses and he ends up killing an Egyptian for mistreating an Israelite slave. He flees to Midian, where he marries and becomes a shepherd.
One day while Moses is tending his sheep, he comes across a burning bush. Moses was amazed because the bush was burning, but it was not being consumed. As Moses moved closer, he heard a voice. The voice said, “I am the God of your father, Abraham’s God, Isaac’s God, and Jacob’s God” (Exodus 3:6)
God called Moses to return to Egypt and rescue his people from slavery. Moses didn’t think he was the man for the job. After all, he didn’t speak very well. God wasn’t going to allow Moses to get out of going to Egypt. God sent Aaron, his brother, with him to help him speak.
Moses was afraid. Most of us feel that way when we are called to do something we don’t think we are prepared to do. God promised Moses to go with him, and Moses trusted God. With God’s help, Moses returned to Egypt to free his people and start a journey that would last many years. We may not hear God’s voice in a burning bush today, but we can hear it and see it in the expressions of gratitude.

Spiritual Practice for Adults
Sit comfortable, close your eyes, and imagine you are standing in front of a bush that is burning but not being consumed. Remove your shoes and know you are on holy ground. What is God calling you to do? Are you hesitant to follow God’s calling? The journey may be long, but you will experience many awesome moments and be filled with gratitude along the way. God will be with you.
