Hello Chapel Hill Families!
Diving into our new curriculum has been so fun! Hoping to see so many of your little ones this weekend.
In June, our Faith word is IDENTITY which means “To know you are a child of God”. Our Memory Verse is Psalm 8:9 “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name throughout the Earth!”. Bible Lessons include:
- “Abba” – Mark 14:32-42
- “Alpha and Omega” – Revelation 22:1-13
KDIC & PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT
Kids Day in Christ and Chapel Hill Preschool opened their enrollment to current families and Chapel Hill members on February 1st. If you have young children interested in attending these programs, please click the links below to get them signed up. These programs fill fast, and are now open to the public to fill the last few spots.

VBS 2023
Save the Date for VBS at Chapel Hill! Volunteer Registration is now OPEN! Child attendance will be limited to 250 children. To ensure your child gets a spot, join our team to receive a link for EARLY child registration. Child registration is now open and will close once we fill all our spots. We have about 30 spots left, so do not delay! Interested in helping with VBS but can’t commit to a full week? We have VBS work nights every Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 and would love to see you there! We’re also trying to collect toilet paper rolls, so save those and bring them downstairs next Sunday!
Information for our new families:
- Our volunteers are supposed to arrive by 9:00, but life happens and sometimes they are running late. Please try to drop off kids between 9:15 and 9:30 AM to avoid waiting on them to arrive.
- Please walk your children back to their classrooms at drop off. We want our volunteers to see who goes with which kid to help speed up our pick up time.
- Don’t forget your pick-up ticket. You will show this to get back to the children’s wing and again to their teacher to pick them up.
- Remember that kids are now promoted to their next grade level so check that their name tags show they are in the right group. Please let Ryan know if it is incorrect.
We sponsor cousins, Neema & Kikwete, who live in the Angel House Orphanage in Tanzania, Africa. We have pledged to give $90/month in order to provide food, clothing and schooling to these children at Angel House. Each Sunday, kids have the opportunity to bring money to put into our offering for Neema and Kikwete. Would you help us meet our goal by sending your child with $1.00 each week? REMINDER:
If you have a 3rd, 4th or 5th grader that has a Deep Blue Bible, please help them remember to bring it with them to Sunday school each week! We don’t have many extras of that particular version at the church and they will be looking up and reading scripture every time they come to church from now on.
Don’t forget to check our Chapel Hill Kids Facebook Group regularly for the most up to date information. If you have moved in the last year, please contact the office so that we have your correct address on file so they can receive some birthday mail. The office number is (316) 684-1117.
Additionally, I have a few items that were lost in the children’s wing over the last couple of weeks. If your child lost a jacket on Palm Sunday, or a personal item from previous weeks, email me at bmiller@chwichita.org so that I can see if I have what you’re looking for!

Bible Story Preview
The story of Jesus praying before his arrest and death is one that appears in all four Gospels. As is often the case, the story differs slightly in each account. In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus displays his humanness. We are told Jesus knows his time of death is drawing near. When Jesus goes to the garden to pray, we see him sad and anxious as he contemplates the events to come. Jesus begs his closest friends to stay awake with him. The disciples fail in the task that Jesus gives them; instead of praying, they fall asleep. There is something comforting in knowing the Son of God has experienced human emotions such as sadness and anxiety. Jesus knows how it feels. He gets it! Just as we can be comforted by these thoughts, we can also learn from Jesus’ example in the way he responds to these emotions. Jesus prays. As he prays, he calls out, “Abba, Father.” Jesus goes to God with his fears and doubts. We often try to expand our understanding and teaching of God and not limit God to father. However, throughout the Bible God is referred to as father. In this
lesson, we can help children explore what it means for God to be like a loving parent or guardian or a trustworthy adult we can go to in times of need. Just as Jesus turned his troubles over to God, we can, too. Today’s Bible lesson teaches Jesus’ calling God Father or Abba. Jesus approaches God as a child of God, and we can approach God this way too. We may or may not connect to God as a father and that’s OK. It is not always about what we call God. Rather it is about how we build relationship with God.

Spiritual Practice for Adults
Divide a piece of paper into two sections. On one side write God is… and on the other side write God is not…. Fill in the sections with things you love and believe about God and things you do not. For example, God is love and God is not hate. After writing your thoughts, read over the page and come up with your own relational name for God. Use that name as you pray throughout the week.
